DOCUMENTATION / Working with Models
Make an experiment you can explain
Prompting an AI agent
Ask the agent to establish purpose before computation: “Inspect this model’s documentation, available tools and supported dates. Explain which operations can compare Earth and Mars distances, and state the limits before changing state.” Once a supported connection is ready, select the browser session by its label and ask: “Find the next closest approach of Earth and Mars after 1 January 2026 UTC, within the supported interval.” This operation finds a model-derived local minimum before the selected end date. Continue the same conversation to interpret the numerical results. See Configuration for release status; hosted ChatGPT access is in setup.
The browser tab must stay open and responsive. Background and mobile tabs can be suspended; this is not unattended execution. Each tab is a separate session. With multiple tabs, name the one to use. Disconnecting revokes further commands; it cannot undo a change that has already completed. After a timeout, inspect fresh state before deliberately repeating an action.
Capabilities and limitations
Read the suite’s contract and inspect the tools exposed by the running version. Solar System uses an approximate Keplerian orbital representation, not N-body integration. Do not use it to infer long-term gravitational stability.
Setting up experiments
Write a question, choose the bodies and time interval, and define which result would answer it. Change one condition at a time. Compare scenarios under consistent units, time conventions and reference frames.
Model state and parameters
Keep physical parameters separate from presentation settings. Enlarging planets or spreading moon orbits in Solar System changes the view, not physical distances. Pause before recording an experimental state.
Results and visualizations
Inspect numerical results alongside visualizations. Solar System’s distance chart uses physical distances; display magnification does not change them. An attractive animation does not establish positional accuracy.
Preserving and reproducing investigations
Export the application’s version-1 JSON session and retain the source revision, data version, dates, model settings and notes. Browser autosave is convenient but does not replace a portable research record. Restore a saved investigation and verify its paused instant.
Modifying a model
An agent can help adapt code or add an analysis for your investigation when source access, permissions and your local agent setup allow it. Source access does not automatically grant modification or redistribution rights. The Solar System baseline has no selected top-level source license. Check permissions, retain attribution, identify your changes and preserve the original version before maintaining a variant.
